This course enhances the care of clients who have experienced or are at risk for a stroke by helping to recognize and respond to stroke signs and symptoms. Additionally, this course helps manage clients’ risks through prevention strategies and medications, and provides stroke-specific comfort and care measures. The course includes four modules

  • Module 1: Gain the basic knowledge of what a stroke is, how to prevent a stroke, its causes, risk factors and symptoms to more effectively care for the client at risk for stroke.
  • Module 2: Learn about the different types of stroke, the tests used to diagnose a stroke, and the complications that may arise after a stroke.
  • Module 3: Learn how to better care for clients following a stroke through knowledge of medications and their side effects, various medical and alternative treatments, and stroke rehabilitation
  • Module 4: Learn effective care and comfort measures, assist with lifestyle changes, and provide support for clients and their families who have experienced a stroke.

Approved for 8 clock hours of continuing education to meet the Medicare home health aide yearly education requirements.

Approved for 8 hours by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to meet CE requirements for long term care workers. For more information, visit the DSHS website.
