This course enhances the care of clients who have multiple sclerosis (MS) by learning to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of this disease. It also teaches MS-specific comfort and care measures. The course includes four modules:

  • Module 1: Gain basic knowledge of what multiple sclerosis is, identify the risk factors, the proposed causes, and recognize the disease symptoms to effectively care for the client with MS.
  • Module 2: Learn how multiple sclerosis is diagnosed, the different types of the disease, and how members of an interdisciplinary care team help the clients manage their symptoms.
  • Module 3: Learn how MS is treated, including medications and their side effects, medical management options, and available alternative treatments.
  • Module 4: Learn effective care and comfort measures, how to assist with lifestyle changes, and provide support for clients and their families who are managing multiple sclerosis.

Approved for 8 clock hours of continuing education to meet the Medicare home health aide yearly education requirements.

Approved for 8 hours by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to meet CE requirements for long term care workers. For more information, visit the DSHS website.
