Care of the Client with Parkinson’s Disease

This course enhances the care of clients who have Parkinson’s disease. Learn to recognize and respond to the signs and symptoms of the disease, and its stages, and understand the risk factors and treatments. The course also teaches Parkinson’s-specific comfort and care measures. The course includes four modules:

  • Module 1: Gain a basic knowledge of what Parkinson’s disease is, its risk factors and proposed causes, and recognize the disease symptoms to more effectively care for clients.
  • Module 2: Learn how Parkinson’s disease is diagnosed and staged and about the emotional changes clients and their families experience as Parkinson’s progresses.
  • Module 3: Learn how the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are treated including medications and their side effects, surgery, and alternative therapies.
  • Module 4: Learn effective care and comfort measures, how to help adapt to lifestyle changes, and provide support to clients and their families who are managing Parkinson’s disease.

Approved for 8 clock hours of continuing education to meet the Medicare home health aide yearly education requirements.

Approved for 8 hours by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to meet CE requirements for long term care workers. For more information, visit the DSHS website.
