Have You Complied With Quality Reporting For Hospice? Uh Oh. It's About To Hit You Hard In The Bank Account.

October 30, 2021
Breaking down the 2 quality elements:
  • Hospice Item Set (HIS) : The HIS is a list of data elements that allow CMS to calculate 7 quality measures including:
  1.  NQF #1641 –Treatment Preferences
  2. Modified NQF #1647 – Beliefs/Values Addressed
  3. NQF #1634 & NQF #1637 – Pain Screening and Pain Assessment
  4. NQF #1639 & NQF #1638 – Dyspnea Screening and Dyspnea Treatment
  5. NQF #1617 – Patients Treated with an Opioid who are Given a Bowel Regimen
  • Hospice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS)  : Those of us who have done skilled home health remember the initiation of home health CAHPS back in 2009. So, when hospice CAHPS began in 2015, if wasn't a foreign concept or surprising initiative. However, just like skilled home health, there are exceptions related to size and this is big for a provider who is just starting with a small footprint in Medicare Hospice.
